Clinics and Services
Antenatal Clinic
All the GP's provide full antenatal and postnatal care in partnership with the hospital and midwives. Appointments are available at a range of times within normal sugery hours.Childhood Immunisations
Routine vaccinations are performed by the practice nurse. Further information about immunisation schedules is available here.
Counselling
We have two counsellors based at the practice, Susi Noble and Bromfield Gay-Rees. Referrals are made via the GP and are for up to four sessions. Counselling is an active process and the more a patient is willing to put into it, the more useful it will be.Diabetes
Diabetes clinics are run by the practice nurse as well as doctors. Regular review is advised for monitoring, advice and to reduce the likelyhood of complications.Family Planning
Contraceptive services are offered by the practice nurse and doctors. Coil fitting and general advice are also available.Flu Vaccination
If you fall into one of the following groups of people, you are more vulnerable to the effects of flu (even if you feel fit and healthy) and could develop more serious illness such as bronchitis and pneumonia. It could also make any existing condition worse.Free flu vaccinations are available in the first instance to:
- All those aged 65 years and over.
- All those aged 6 months or over in a clinical risk group ie:
- all patients with chronic disease such as chronic respiratory disease, including asthma, COPD, chronic heart disease
- chronic kidney disease
- chronic liver disease
- diabetes
- all patients with chronic disease such as chronic respiratory disease, including asthma, COPD, chronic heart disease
- Patients with a condition or treatment affecting their immune system (patients undergoing chemotherapy, removal of spleen, HIV).
- Those patients living in long stay residential care homes.
- If you are the main carer for an elderly or disabled person whose welfare may be at risk if you fall ill you are also welcome to make an appointment for a flu jab.
Patients that do not fall into one of the above categories who would still like a vaccination should contact the surgery.
To find out more information about flu and the flu vaccination download the NHS Factsheet.
All people aged over 65 are also eligible for the pneumococcal vaccine which can be administered at the same time.
Minor Surgery and Cryotherapy
A minor surgery appointment may be advised or offered, following an appointment with a GP who will assess the condition. Minor surgery appointments are in great demand and are released on the first working day of each month and booked on a first come, first served basis. Non-NHS Work
We have many requests from patients for reports, letters and certificates e.g. Private insurance claim forms; reports for solicitors, housing etc. This is a very time consuming exercise, much of which is completed in the doctor’s own time at the weekend or evenings. This work does not come under terms of service for General Medical Services and is therefore prioritised accordingly.Charges vary according to the service provided.
It helps us if you allow plenty of time for completion of forms. Payment of the appropriate fee should be made on collection of the form (Cheques are acceptable if accompanied by a cheque guarantee card).
Sick Certification
If you are ill and unable to attend work for less than seven days, you do not need a sick note from your doctor. You will need to inform your employer and if necessary, complete a self certification form. This form is obtained from your employer. If you request a sick note before seven days this is deemed to be a private sick note and a fee will be charged for this
For absences of seven days or more, you need a sick note from the doctor. You will need to make an appointment to see the doctor for this. If your illness extends beyond the period certified by the doctor, you will need to see the doctor again for an extension. Occasionally, a telephone call may be sufficient, if this has been previously agreed with the GP.
If you have been discharged from the hospital and require a sick note, please supply a copy of the hospital discharge note. A sick note can be made on the basis of information on the discharge letter.
Notes which are issued for reasons other than those circumstances detailed above fall outside the NHS contract will be charged for.
Sick certificates are not issued for school children.
